Independent MP Ahmed Saif Hashed is known for his strong criticism of the regime and his advocacy of humanitarian issues. He had worked as a judge, but quit his job due to “corruption in the judiciary.” Despite his diplomatic immunity, Hashed has been severely beaten a number of times by security forces and thugs during his participation in pro-democracy protests. Hashed talks to the Yemen Times about recent events in Yemen. President Saleh said that Yemen will dissolve into civil war if there is an attempted military coup.

SANA’A, Jan. 30 – Shop owners were worried that their livelihoods would be destroyed when they heard protests on Saturday turn violent near their shops in the centre of the capital.

“We don’t want protests, we want to go about our regular business without being dragged into a political struggle,” said a fabrics shopkeeper in Jamal Street.

جراء نشاطاته البرلمانية والحقوقية الجريئة؛ التي طالما وإن عرت التجاوزات والانتهاكات التي تمارسها السلطات بحق المواطنين، ظل حاشد عرضة لسيل من الانتهاكات والاعتداءات المتكررة من قبل السلطات،  طالت حقوقه الدستورية والقانونية، و لم يقف الأمر عند تعطيل دوره الرقابي ومنعه من القيام بواجبه البرلماني فحسب، بل وصل الأمر إلى حد الاعتداء الجسماني عليه وحبسه ومحاولة اغتياله واختطافه عدة مرات.. أقرأ باقي الموضوع »

Displaced People of Alga’ashin’s arrest and torture, witnessed by Fuad Ahmad Naji   Leave a comment

On Tuesday Oct 21th 2010 , a peaceful rally held by Alga’ashin displaced people in front of the Sana’a-based Algumhuri Hospital was suppressed by security forces. Most of the participants in the rally were arrested, including Fuad Ahmed Naji; one of Alga’ashin’s displaced, who was moved to Alnasr police station, having been beated by those forces. He was also tortured by electricity and live cigarettes by group of the soldiers, taken to hospital after a deteriorated health.

اعتقال وتعذيب مهجري الجعاشن.. شهادة فؤاد أحمد ناجي   Leave a comment

الثلاثاء 12 اكتوبر 2010، قامت قوات الأمن بقمع مسيرة سلمية لمهجري أبناء الجعاشن أمام المستشفى الجمهوري في العاصمة صنعاء. وقد قامت قوات الأمن باعتقال معظم المشاركين في المسيرة. وكان فؤاد أحمد ناجي واحد من مهجري الجعاشن الذين تعرضوا للاعتقال والاعتداء بالضرب من قبل قوات الأمن، نُقل بعدها إلى قسم شرطة “النصر” حيث تعرض هناك للضرب المبرح والتعذيب بالكهرباء وأعقاب السجائر من قبل مجموعة من الضباط. وبسبب تدهور حالته الصحية نتيجة للتعذيب، تم نقله إلى المستشفى.

First interpellation in history of Yemen Parliament

On 14th July, 2010, the Yemen House of Representatives held the first interpellation session in its history as the independent MP, Mr. Ahmed Saif Hashed, among other two MPs belonging to the ruling party, questioned the Deputy Prime Minister for Security and Defense Affairs and Minister of Interior on security issues including the death of 5 people belonging to Mr. Hashed’s constituency in the last year, two of them were killed by security forces and the other three murdered by known perpetrators, who have not been arrested yet.
